Weekend ReCap

Friday

Drove to Wisconsin

Couple Drinks @ Grims

Saturday
Read a little, napped a little, poked at some homework, napped. It was wonderful.

Had some cocktails and watched some basketball.

Sunday

Drove home.

Watched a few movies but I couldn't tell you what any of them were.

Just kind of a lackadaisical weekend while I was tuning out and working on my next move.

Insurance Coverage

So I got my annual tax assessment in the mail the other day and since 2006 the value of my house has decreased close to 40k.

The upside of this decrease is that even with the referendums we passed in the last election my taxes are going down.

I started to think about that though for the last three years my property taxes have gone down...but my insurance has gone up slightly?

Just wondering if anyone has had their property hazard insurance rates reduced?

I called my guy but he gave me speech I have heard from him before about my high risk self and I believe him since he has done some amazing things for me on the insurance side:)

But wondering if anyone else has seen a decrease or if they work in insurance: how much does the value of the home figure into the rate?

Fun with Mnemonic Devices

See if you can guess what the mnemonic device is used for remembering. I will post the answers at lunch today...

1 - Super man helps every one

2 - Mary's violet eyes make jack sit up nights pinning

3 - How I want a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy lectures involving quantum mechanics.

4 - Easter bunnies get drunk at Easter. (besides being musical what does this represent specifically)

5 - The ancient society of weird foreign scientists seized neither leisure nor the sheiks heifers at these heights.

6 - Richard of York gave battle in vain.

2000 + 9

What a difference a few years can make. In the year 2000 there were no IPOD's, XM Radios, American Idols, Troops in Iraq, Crocs, Utube Videos or Wikapedia Results.

Crazy huh? You see these things everyday now and just 9 years ago none of them existed.

Magical Couch

When I was younger we used to play this game on this massive playground by my house. The objects was similar to tag except you couldn't get off the playground set or touch the sand cause then you would "die".

I kind of feel that way about my couch and bed as I climb over furniture avoiding touching the carpet. It is this magical world. A leather Brian charger. I plug my ass into the seats and cushions and feel energy start to flow back into me. Maybe it is the company. The back rubs the contours of two bodies fitting together in an exhausted relaxing embrace.

It has been a busy two months and I think I just need a good full charge. Today I just feel proud and utterly exhausted. I am looking over my 120 list and everything that I have done this far and it has been a while since I have felt that sense of pride in something I have accomplished. People often have a hard time believing that I am an introvert. Not in the sense that I am shy cause I am not but in the sense that I need gratuitous amounts of down time to function properly.

I am looking forward to some good couch time this week:)

Brian Pre-Drinking Check List

Chalk this up under items you now needlessly know about me.

Before I go out drinking I have to complete the following four tasks

1.) Feed the cats and change the litter box. (Just in case I don't make it home for a few days)

2.)Make my bed. (I just love coming home to a made bed.)

3.) Fill the brita picture with water. Re hydration is important

4.) Make coffee and set the timer for the morning. (Nothing I hate worse then making coffee in the morning hung over)

From Rims to Slims

Throughout the course of evolution species have made various displays of prominence to attract mates. The put up symbols of status to outwardly communicate that they have the genes to create plenty and feed many. In the peacock for example it is bright colored feathers that signifies that the male is healthy. Now the human species does roughly the same thing whether it is a particulate car you drive or item you wear or rims on your ride. It signals that you are a baller and have money left over for luxury so come and next with me.

I was thinking of this in context of the recent hikes in cigarettes. I wonder if smoking will soon gain status as a luxury item that can only be enjoyed by fewer and fewer people and if this luxury status will in fact attract more people to smoking in the future.

At the very least what the heavy tax is going to do is cause the black market to be flooded with knock off imitation cigarettes made abroad.

Pay Them Now or Pay More Later.

I think more politicians need to spend time in the business sector managing to the bottom line.

AIG Should pay bonuses to its employees, WellsFargo should have had its Vegas party.

In order to get out of this mess it is going to take the best and brightest of the business community. To attract talent in the real world requires incentives. Imagine if all of the AIG top executives just left to pursue other opportunities and believe me talented people who put up results always have other oppertunities? Where would that company be?

I hate hearing the news reports of people saying it is frivolous and wasteful spending. It is the cost of business and to remove the incentive for the best people to fight on and clear up this problem is to leave the fate of the country to the hands of the mediocre.

Is that what we really want? Do we think that is the key to economic stimulus in this country?

I would rather pay the points up front on this to have the economy start to rebound then take the points on the back end which is exactly what is going to happen.

By cutting a hundred million in incentives up front you could be added trillions of dollars in loses on the back end as the recession drags on.

Pay them and stop bitching or maybe we should start looking at your compensation packages...

Time for a Green Vodka Redbull

I wonder if the red and white on the flag of Ireland ever get pissed that green gets all of the attention.

I mean can you imagine if only one flag color received attention on the 4th of July? There would be ACL lawsuits, discrimination legislation, coalitions formed, congressional oversight committees funded to help even it all out.

But then it is not an American holiday so we can enjoy it for what it is.

That is until we decided to increase liquor tax to pay for the next stimulus package.

Until then I will just enjoy the moment and maybe a green vodka redbull or two.

Weekend ReCap

Friday

Fixed my leaking ass shower. (This has only been leaking for about 7 months)

Went to Happy Hour @ Tailgate ....was passed out in bed by 9:00..lol

Saturday

Read The Dog Owners Manual by David Brunner well cause I am getting a dog and want to research it prior to getting one. Interesting book and format although I would not recommend it for dog training.

Culture Day

Russian Art Museum I figured since I can walk there it is probably time that I actually go inside and check it out. It was pretty cool although the stamp exhibit was probably lost on me.

Checked out Spill the Wine it was pretty good:)Which is good since I still have a few Strib Deal Vouchers left for it..lol

Grumpy's for some cocktails.

ALoft WXYZ for some hungry hippo and cocktails you have to love a place that has hungry hippo on the table for you and I think it helps keep the cheese dick ratio much lower then the W.

Reality Name Change

I wonder if anyone has left the name of their child completely up to the random deciding factor of who wins a reality TV show.

A pregnant couple who likes to cook sits down at the beginning of the Top Chef Season and says what the fuck lets name our offspring after who ever wins this bitch.

I bet you it has happened.

Cult Following

I don't know why I get so offended when people say stuff like, "You have quite a cult following." Don't get me wrong I am flattered that people take time out of their days to read this or to engage me conversation over drinks, but something about cult or cult classics give me the shivers.

I think I associate cults with mindless people who follow a leader and I want none of that.

In fact I want just the opposite.

A group of people who think for themselves. Who follow no leader, but their own taste and desire to learn.

A group of people with independent thought.

I wonder what name you would use to refer to that group of people?

Then I would call them __________ associates.

The New Fat Camp

I randomly ran into a guy I went to high school with last night. This particular fellow has been incarcerated for the last 8 years and I can honestly say I have never in my life seen someone in such good shape in person. I mean a cursory look past the facial tattoos and all you could see was muscle...Arnold muscle. Ripped.

I am not usually one to check out other guys but damn.

I started to wonder as I drove away looking at my pot belly if we are going to come to a day and age in the country where they only people who are in great shape are people who have been to prison?

Will they feed on the fat lazy slobs on the outside who never got caught?

Is prison the ultimate fat camp? Bad food. Nothing to do but exercise all day.

Maybe one day going to prison will be in vogue and Shape magazine will do an expose on the best places to get locked up.

Pinky and the Brain

Sometimes I wonder if Osama Bin Laden ever feels like Pinky and the Brain or Doctor Evil. Albeit the Brain was much more creative in his attempts to take over the world and Doctor Evil has a much better sense of humor. Then I realized a sad thought, Osama doesn't want to rule the world he wants to destroy the part of it that doesn't agree with him. Maybe Osama is Pinky to Muhammad's Brain? Constantly foiling plans written down by a divine dictator. Did you ever think about that? I guess Tears for Fears was right when they said everybody wants to rule the world.

Does Bacon Equate to Xenophobia?

Interesting discussion last night on whether or not you can gage a persons degree of Xenophobia by how much they love bacon.

Is Bacon and bacon merchandise the new confederate flag?

Here is the logic: a person who incorporates bacon as a major component in their diet is less likely to interact with other cultures where the use of bacon is considered offensive for example as in the Kosher diet or pick any handful of major religions that consider swine filthy. This person would eat at places that served bacon or with people for who the practice of eating bacon was culturally acceptable making few relations outside of their cultural norm. Over time this worse of bacon would culturally isolate the individual and reinforce social norms.

I was a little tipsy as this was being discussed but for some reason it almost started to sound plausible.

For the record I am a fan of bacon cheeseburgers.

For the record I wouldn't consider myself xenophobic.

But this could have to do with the amount of love I have for bacon?

How would I do this study? Especially since most people are unwilling to admit that they have racist or xenophobic tendencies?

I realize there is a huge issue with causality here but it is interesting to think about none the less.

Maybe someday there will even be a question on E-Harmony asking people to rank their bacon obsession.

Religion = Apathy?

The happiest day of my life was when I was born again as an atheist. It was the day I realized that my time is finite, that anything I want to happen in my life I have to do. There is no eternal land of happiness to inherit. No one is coming to save you. As bleak as that sounds it is the most awesome force in this world. It is human will. It is me in control of my destiny. It is my happiness. My ability to live every minute because I know this is it. I do what I want rather then what is expected and I love every minute of it.

I can't stand the apathy of religion.

Of someone who thinks prayer is going to fix our problems.

A person who believes it is gods will that we pump billions of chemicals into the air and if we die we die.

A person who believes we are going to be saved by a liberator by something other then ourselves.

These are probably going to be the most blasphemous things I have ever uttered but I think they need to be said.

We are our own saviors.

Prayer instead of action is for the weak and lazy. It is pushing your problem off on someone else.

There are people that come up to me ask ask about what I did last night and last weekend with a little twinkle of jealousy in their eyes that I never quite get, since they could do the same things if only they wanted to.
There are haters that say I am reckless and irresponsible that I am too old to enjoy life like I do.

But I know something they don't.....

That our time is running out.

That soon enough this ride is going to end and we will die and in that brief moment before, when we can think back through our time here I am glad that I am me and lived my way and not theirs.

Some Quotes for Faithful...

"Jesus turned water into wine and not the other way around."

"Two hands working accomplishes more then a million clasped in prayer."

"When you see my face I hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell."

My Punctuality is Relevant.

I Have started to notice my punctuality corresponds to how much preperation the person expecting me has gone to on my behalf. I know some people who are on time no matter what. I know some people who are always late no matter what.

I have also noticed the less someone has had to prepare for me the later I will show up. For example I always arrive on time to a dinner party since I know a lot of effort goes into it and like all things delicious timing can be everything, but if that same person invited me for just drinks I might be 15 minutes late or if there are a lot of people invited maybe an hour to two hours late.

The same principle applys to work. My co-works have driven far, droppped of kids, said good bye to love ones all to meet with me at an expected time hence I am never late for work.

I have also noticed I hold people to this similar logic that the more effort I put into preparing for a person the more pissed off I get if they are late.

The only place this principle doesn't seem to apply is that I am never late to happy hour even if i am going alone..lol

Is there anything funnier on TV then Robot Chicken?

This show is off the hook!!!

Weekend ReCap

Friday

Solera for a few cocktails:)

When to Manhattans for a few cocktails....I really want to love this place but the service is just poor. I mean call me stupid but a place that wants to be known for their cocktails should probably have some decent bartenders. Granted it has been a few years since I have slinged drinks but I could have done better job then all of them put together. The only thing worse than a slow woman is a slow bartender.

Went to see Joel McHale's comedy show at the State Theater. Fuck you I like the Soup and anyone who hates Ryan Seacrest that much is alright in my book. Now the State Theater really messed up the timing of these shows and it was a mess getting into the 10:00 show with the 8:00 show getting out but after a brief pushing match the show got started and it was pretty good. I have no idea who his opening act was but that guy was awesome.

Saturday

Worked for a few hours early in the morning.

Went to Half Price Books and Sold off a Years Worth of Text Books (Probably about $1000.00 worth for a cool $50.00)

Installed New Fridge Compressor.

Went to Tailgate....hey I had $50 burning a hole in my pocket.

Got some PF Changs take out, made a fire, drank some wine and watched Vicky Christina, Barcelona.
I am a pretty big Woody Allen fan but this was not his best by any means..ok it was sexy, Cruz was good, I love Spain but the some of the parts was just equal to the whole. My favorite part was watching it on the couch with someone who was even sexier.

Sunday

Worked a little in the morning

Chores, Chores, Chores

Watched Nights in Rodanthe. Started off slow, but a decent ending even for a Nicholas Sparks novel.

Did Home Work

Watched Zach and Miri Make a Porno It was alright.

Got my prep on for the week.
