Noise in a Crowd
Ever been in a crowded place when you were alone and shut your eyes and just listened? Noise rising in and out of focus, multiple streams of sound crescendo and then descend, blackholes leaking pitches, chatter, mindlessness, overlapping incomprehensible vibrations, communication. The world is external, I am internal. I am an observer. Sound surrounds me, but meaning doesn't penetrate. Whirls and twirls, if this sound is a color it is dark mush. I am alone in a crowd, whispers, touches, shouts, compounding syllables, relational vibrations, pockets of silence. I hear lies, distortions. We use vibrations to hide that what you can see if you look close enough. I know why this is like listening to a flock of birds. The Heard? I am part of the heard, the runt, the wolves are coming, I am alone in a crowd and a little drunk.

Anyone else appeciate the play on the word heard? Personally I thought that was clever:)
That's good work, bri. I read this on Saturday night at the muddy pig.
Long live the Muddy Pig:)
I was on a marathon of thought this weekend. I think I wrote about 16 pieces this weekend, plus 3 letters, and two essay's....all of them are currently on napkins, spanish homework, receipts, a club flyer I have no recollection of getting even my parking ramp ticket i had to fight to keep..now I just have to type them
You know I have this horrible problem! No matter how hard I try, I can never block outside discussion. Even when I'm talking to another person directly, my brain still picks up any conversations within hearing distance. I hate it!
They have done studies and women are much better at hearing and actually computing two different conversations at the same time.
It is very intresting how shutting off one sense, vision, enhances hearing.
I too can't block the outside disc....Tell me the secret! There has to be one......
My key has been my IPOD ear buds I have become so deaf that I can only hear someone screaming right in front of me....lol
The women thing is interesting I wonder if boobs reflect sound waves up to the ears making them better listeners much lick cupping your hand over your ear?....what do you think my chances are for a research grant to checkk this out?
I will contribute some research funds if I can be the cupping tester.
You in....but wait...If I charged the cuppers in this study i could raise billions for education and balance the budget...i might be on to something
good luck finding your test subjects.
