Ownership vs. Experience - The Mastery Fallacy

"Having a male gynecologist is like going to an auto mechanic who doesn't own a car"
-Carrie Snow

Yes Carrie you have a vagina and I am happy for you. I would also like to wager that despite my lack of a vagina I have more vaginal experience then you. I have seen multiple vagina's up close. I have experimented extensively with them. Seen their capacity for excepting various objects up close. I would be willing to bet that despite your ownership of the object I have greater experience with it.

Just because you have something doesn't make you the expert.

Nicely put. I would agree that a male gynocologist may not be able to empathize with the feelings etc... of a vagina, but as for it's function, pieces of parts etc... he may actually have an advantage as you say.

But in the end, the female gyno has seen just as many I guess. It comes down to.. does having a vagina increase ones ability to care and diagnose issues with the vagina. It may as women could discribe the feeling they are getting etc... and maybe the female gyno has had the same thing but then I am sure the male gyno's have heard about all of those feelings...

I don't knnow man, all I know is that I LOVE vagina.

I agree with you. I own a car, and it doesn't make me a mechanic.

AND, this is why my gyno is a lesbian.

But would YOU trust a female doctor with your penis? I would much prefer having a female gyno than a male.

i just don't want my GP all up in my business. he's been my doc since i was a child and frankly, for an older guy, he's attractive. too much weirdness there. i go see my special lady doctor for all my gyno needs.

Brian, you are an expert on the corruption of the credit card industry, and I've learned a lot from you. But I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, I AM an expert on my vagina!

This Carrie Snow person - that's just a perception, and I know a lot of women feel that way. It's not about being an expert; it's about receiving care from some who can physiologically empathize.

Given that, I would never say that women doctors can't specialize in boy parts, or that male doctors can't specialize in girl parts.

Keep the provocative posts comin'

Agreed. Unless you have had "experience" with women, it is very difficult to see that area anyway, even with a mirror.
