When building a deck or patio you should have a slope of a 1/4 inch for every ten feet to let the water run off. Failure to build in this unbalanced offset allows water to stand and the foundation to start breaking in the middle.
Sometimes being a little unbalance saves the core from lifes water collacting in the middle and undermining the entire structure.
