I have always had a problem with this line in a news story. I wish they were more specific about the efforts they went through to get the comment cause there is a lot of wiggle room in not immediately available.
I think journalist should have to explicitly state what they did.

On the flip side, I know certain corporate people that would not pick up the phone when the journalist calls, knowing that they had nothing to say. From a corporate perspective "not immediately available for comment" is better than "was not able to comment"... yes, splitting stupid hairs. It's one of the dumbest cat and mouse games ever. I agree - journalists should be transparent and business should too...

They didn't do anything, they read what they are writing. Ok not all 'journalists' these days just merely regurgitate what they read from another journalist but I think it happens way to much now.
