Civil vs. Criminal Courts

The difference between a civil and a criminal case is fairly simple

In a criminal case society is trying to punish an individual for breaking the rules of society. They have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone is guilty.

In a civil suit private parties are suing private parties for damages. The private parties win by preponderance of the evidence. (Who has more evidence)

It is why civil suits are usually easier to win.

Just thought I would share that distinction.

Busy writing papers on how to defend a business against a torte and the more I talk with people the more I realize most people don't know the difference.
