Milestones

I am approaching an invisible ominous marker. Fairly soon I will be older then my father at the time he died.

It is strange how time gives you hindsight.

I was ten when he died and he seemed so old and now that I am his age I feel so young and could not imagine it all being over this soon. He seems so certain so assured. I still feel so naive and uncertain.

I don't know why this has been creeping into the back of my mind lately it just has, its just a number, and age and invisible milestone that will come and go.

When it does I want you to know I no longer morn you but celebrate that day as the first day I realized how precious life is and that under no circumstances should I waste any of it. Life is too short to be petty. Spend it in gratitude. Enjoy every minute.

60 second worth of distance run.

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.- Muhammad Ali

A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.- Hugh Downs

Brian - of all the "young" people I've known, you are the most self-realized, think-on-purpose, get-it in a big way. You've always known these things, I've heard you say them in different ways for as long as I've known you. Remember and celebrate your father, but know that you are Brian in Mpls and you have your own path to follow. Life is short, but you, my friend are good at making the most of your day. Even if it includes tricking your boss into wearing silly glasses, snapping a pciture and then posting that picture in the lobby on Boss' day. Now that's someone who celebrates life. You too Rocket!

I'd bet that he wasn't as self assured as you believed him to be. You were little and big people have a way of faking it, or just being brave when they have to be.
