Witness
In this country we do not allow people to be convicted of crimes on hearsay. We do not allow people to rot in jail because I heard through my best-friends sisters uncle that he knows a guy who knows a guy who saw you do it. We require proof. Witnesses. Evidence. First Hand accounts.
Can you imagine a world were you don't need these things? Where you can make up stories about your enemies, political rivals, neighbors and they are taken as fact without evidence? Would you want to live there?
Yet most people do live there. At least part time. At least an hour on Sunday.
In all seriousness this coming Easter as you are sitting and listening to church sermons, prayers, rituals of the Resurrection. Pick up a bible and read it. You will notice that no where in any gospel are there any first hand accounts of anyone witnessing the Resurrection. No one saw Jesus actually rise from the dead.
If you came to accept that the Resurrection was only an allegory, would that change your faith? I just find it interesting that the need for logic and proof and the suspension of it seem to exist in so many peoples lives without the slightest feeling of contradiction.
Interesting isn't it?

One night I was by myself and watching Wheel of Fortune while I made myself some supper. A new puzzle came up... and with no letters at all... I knew the answer. No one was there so I can't prove it. But it happened. I swear it did.
The fact that no one actually saw him dead one second and come to life the next doesn't bother me. Yes I have a lot of questions about the life and death of Jesus and many doubts but I'm not going to change my faith, because my beliefs outweigh my doubts. When I die I'll find out if I was right and if I was wrong. Until then I'll just be happy to believe what I believe and I'm ok with that. I guess some people would call that blind faith... and some people would call it just plain stupid. We're all going to believe what we want and think what we want and we need to agree to disagree.
Talking religions is like talking about your favorite color. My favorite color is red... I'm drawn to it... I think it's beautiful. Just because someone else likes blue doesn't mean I think they're an idiot. It doesn't mean I don't want to talk to them or find them interesting. They just don't see the color red the way I do... and that's fine.
This probably made no sense. It's a Sunday morning (I don't go to church, can't stand it, just my opinion) I haven't had any coffee, and the time change always fucks me up.
Wait, you mean we celebrate easter for Jesus? God damned, you learn something new everyday!
(and in case peeps failed to notice, that was sarcasm)
That is the point though ...You were the wintness
Isn't the whole bible an allegory?

No, but for the first two paragraphs I thought you were about to rant about Guanatanamo.
