Imagine for a second that we all were paid the way we are crying to the government to enforce executive compensation. If the company does well we are paid well and if the company does poorly we are paid poorly.
Imagine in the economy that your industry is suffering a slow down that might not have anything to do with how your particular company is performing....would you like to get half a pay check? You would cry bloody foul. Bitch about how unfair it is. Tell the world it is not your fault. It is someone else's. Pay me my money.
But for some reason we expect executives to follow this model?
Think about the logic of it...
You are saying that your contribution to the overall results is so insignificant that you deserve to be exempt from this type of results oriented compensation and that the executives contribution is so significant that they deserve to be on this type of compensation but then out of the other side of your mouth you say it is not fair they make so much more?....huh?
We spend too much time worrying about the value of other people instead of increasing the value that we provide.

Amen!
My biggest gripe with executives is that they still receive insane amounts of bonuses even while they lay off blue collar workers when the company is suffering horribly. I know it's all about the bottom line but is it too much to ask for executives to bear some of the burden as well or do the same rules not apply to them as well?
sornie, dito. I think it's about bonuses not regular comp.
So true Brian. I know for one, the company I am working for is hitting hard times. I am just happy I still have a job. I hear my co-workers complain they should get paid more. In Michigan, hardly anyone even has a job right now...I'm just thankful to get a regular paycheck at this point. You won't hear me complaining.
cute and smart, why cant you be in tx. SHOOT!
I was a bit confused by this post as I have been in the position where your division within a large company ends up coverering for another's divisions shortcomings so that all could get their bonuses. It was INSANELY unfair.

You definitely hit the nail on the head there....
I like that people get paid what they get paid. It gives me something to aspire to.
It's not if the executives are valuable or not ... it is the outrageous amounts they are paid in comparison to their other employees.
But you're right, we should mind more of the business at hand (ours) and less of everyone's else's.
